$20 bathroom make-over

It seems there is always a home improvement project we could do.
I saw this DIY project on Pinterest on how to add a frame to a boring ol' builder grade bathroom mirror.
Our bathroom is small (REALLY small!) and basic.  While we have no big plans for a remodel, we thought this little project might give it a little punch.

Eric began by removing the mirror from the wall.

The Pinterest DIY - uses MDF boards, but we chose to use pine instead because we prefer real wood and it is much lighter than MDF.
I put a primer coat of paint on the wood, and then several thin coats of latex paint.

Eric used a plunge router to make notches so that the wood would lie flush over the mirror clips.

He used Gorilla glue (for mirrors) to glue the bottom board onto the mirror first, then he glued the side boards.

He marked the spot where he'd need to drill a hole for the light fixture wires.

The final step was to add some crown molding.  We used simple floor molding because the boards are only 1/2" thick.

The original light fixture had four bulbs.  The new fixture had three bulbs.  Because the lights hang over the mirror, we thought that would reflect off enough light to make up for it, (see above photo.) but we thought it was still a little dark.  We ended up swapping fixtures from another bathroom.
So this is how is looks now.

Next, I'll paint the vanity with this.  It's what I used for our kitchen cabinets.
It would be nice to replace the faucet fixture, because the crystal ball types are so ugly, but it works so maybe not right now.

The whole mirror frame project cost us about $20 - because we already had the paint and the light fixture.  We also still have what we need to paint the vanity.

I'll be sure to post an update photo when it's all done, but I just had to show you our $20 bathroom make-over!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
