Baking 101

I'd like to present my new muffin maker...

Muffins are one of the easiest things to make and I think they are the perfect starting point when teaching children how to bake.
Even a better choice than the most basic chocolate chip cookie because having someone else who can make breakfast in the morning is super-di-dooper helpful.

What I like, besides spending time with Ellie of course, is that taken out of the context of a textbook, fractions are fun.  Measurements make sense.  It's real life learning, and it has a purpose.

You'll never hear, "When will I ever need to know this?"
AND bonus for someone just learning is when you hear all the other family members swoon and say how great they taste!

Eric bought this cast iron heart muffin pan for me one Valentine's Day.  Isn't it the cutest?

Just a plain basic muffin (not gluten free, but baking gluten free is tricky, and NOT the place to start!)
Paired with some plum-apple-cinnamon sauce, it was the perfect spread for a perfect muffin.

(sorry for the less than perfect photos, but phone photos are better than no photos, right?)
