Special Sauce

One thing my dad is famous for is his homemade spaghetti sauce.
Seriously, anyone who knows my dad well, knows his sauce is one of a kind.
It's one of my fondest memories of my childhood...my dad's spaghetti.

He is currently here visiting, and guess what he offered to do?

The sauce has its humble beginnings.  Canned tomatoes, an onion, garlic, oregano...

It sits on a slow flame all day.  Stirred and tasted.  Spices adjusted.  Stirred and tasted.
Meanwhile the smells waft through the kitchen.

After several hours of simmering, the tomatoes and seasonings marry and meld nicely.
It is then time to add Italian sausages
and homemade meatballs.

He adds them uncooked to the simmering sauce.
When they are cooked through, the sauce is done.

Bon Appetit

I am so thankful that my children have the chance to spend this special time with their Grampa making memories
and
enjoying his spaghetti.
