Bad me! :-) My dd had the goat in the milking stand and asked me to get the needed supplies. What? Ha, ha. Anyways, this post was great. My dh looked up on craigslist for a saw dust source. There are a lot things we want to change in how we do things around the homestead. It can be a bit overwhelming. One thing at a time...

Blessings,
KerriThe Southern Peach-Girlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16285922048222762134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654315170777628138.post-29693674238802054682012-05-21T10:10:06.901-07:002012-05-21T10:10:06.901-07:00We are only on our first milker, but so far no mas...We are only on our first milker, but so far no mastitis. We currently use a homemade udder wash and use straw for bedding, I had never read about using GSE, I'll have to look into that!Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17289736864100513764noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654315170777628138.post-55599668966605509692012-05-21T08:08:27.645-07:002012-05-21T08:08:27.645-07:00Our supplier is Dejong's Shavings and Sawdust....Our supplier is Dejong's Shavings and Sawdust. The sawdust is fir. I'm pretty sure that cedar is NOT a good choice. (I know it's bad to use for small animals such as rabbits)

Yes, you got it right - shavings are lighter and fluffier, while the sawdust compacts much better.Carol Blanchethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04031701738706519481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654315170777628138.post-7920309043365233942012-05-20T20:15:05.921-07:002012-05-20T20:15:05.921-07:00This is really great information. I might give the saw dust a try. Is it from a particular type of wood - ie. cedar, pine, etc. Just curious, is the saw dust just finer than the shavings and that's why it compacts better and smothers the bacteria?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00564840073358020600noreply@blogger.com
