Abbie is 6!

This year she had a two-day celebration.  Since her birthday fell on a Monday and that meant Peeps would be at work, we celebrated the day before with a day at the park following church.  {her request} She loves this park.  I think I've mentioned that before.   ;-)

Currently, her favorite thing to do is ride her bike. It was another glorious day, weather-wise and perfect for bike riding.

Then, on her actual birthday, we began the day with our birthday traditions ~ birthday chair and gifts in the morning.

Then once everyone was back home, we enjoyed birthday dinner.
Her request: hot dogs and cake with ice cream.

Since her favorite colors are yellow and pink.  The cake was a lemon cake with butter cream frosting topped with pink M&M's with vanilla ice cream on the side.  Perfect.

Some fun facts about Abbie:
   She has a crazy-fun laugh.
   She is as big as her sister who is two years older.  {so they look like twins}
Her favorite animal is a dolphin.
Her favorite food is hot dogs.
Her favorite candy is a Lolli-pop.
She is not as shy as she once was.
She has become a joyful little girl from the baby who cried A LOT.

Eric and I consider it is such a privilege and a blessing to be training and teaching this little sweetie.  We pray that her heart will be tender towards the Lord and His leading always.

We love you, Abigail.
Happy Birthday!

Of frogs and flowers and fingerprints

We've had some gloriously sunny days.

Trees are budding

and the daylight is lingering a little longer.

It feels like spring is here and with it comes the longing to be outside, which
makes it a little harder for when we have a rainy, sloppy, stay-inside kind of day.

Inevitably, I hear, "What can I dooooooooo?"

When I recently combed my bookshelves for an idea, I found this little gem that I had forgotten about.

All that is needed is some blank paper, some ink pads, and a black, thin, felt pen.

Here are some of Ellie's creations from the other day.

Ellie's version of the cover

From left to right: a duck, a cocoon, a turtle, a flower, a fuzzy caterpillar, a regular caterpillar, a frog, and a bee flapping its wings...just so you know.

Then the creative juices really began to flow.
Can you guess who she was thinking of when she made this little guy?

Something so simple, yet different from the ordinary step by step drawing books, gave her a delightful, artful afternoon.   WIN!

Birthday fun ~ round 2

Birthday fun {Eric}

Eric's work load lightened up a bit ~ enough that he didn't feel guilty taking the day off. :-)
Here is how we celebrated his special day.

Gifts in the morning

It was an especially beautiful day with
warm sunshine and crystal clear blue skies. That is always something to celebrate.

Since skateboarding is Eric's favorite thing to do, we decided to hit our favorite park. It's our favorite because there is something for everyone.

Also, there is a smooth path that encircles the lake which totals about 1 mile.    Eric is making plans to enter a few longboard competitions this year.  He is working on his speed.  He did a mile in 5.5 minutes!

Here is his little protégé.

Eric made no special requests for his birthday dinner, and he would eat anything I made, but his favorite is lasagna ~ so lasagna we enjoyed!
Pecan pie is another favorite and that he did request. :-)

Two candles because he is two ~ or thereabouts.
